Was intimidated by zero turns after only owning riding mowers. The ZT1 42 has been a great starter machine - the lap bar controls are intuitive and the size isn't overwhelming. Cut my 1 acre yard in 30 minutes instead of the 90 minutes my old rider took.
The ZT1 42 itself has been fine. My dealer was slow to prep the mower and unhelpful with basic questions. Cub Cadet dealer network varies dramatically - shop around. Mower rates higher than the buying experience.
Wanted zero turn speed and maneuverability but didn't want to spend on a 54 inch deck for my small yard. The ZT1 42 is the sweet spot - real zero turn performance in an appropriately sized package.
Cub Cadet marketing gets it right - this really is a good 'start your zero turn journey' machine. The size, controls, and price all match what a first-time zero turn buyer needs. Kawasaki engine means it will last.
Was intimidated by the price of the ZT1 54 and honestly didn't need that much deck. The 42 was the right size and price for my lot. Kawasaki engine and Cub Cadet quality without paying for capability I wouldn't use.
